Kurt Warner says it takes a year to get comfortable in an offense

Since he played for three different teams over the course of his career, you could say Kurt Warner knows a thing or two about learning a new offense.

So Cardinals fans can trust his insight on what to expect from new quarterback Kevin Kolb as the former Eagle goes through the learning process in Arizona.

“I’m a firm believer that you need a full year with any particular system to get 100 percent comfortable with the nuances of that system,” Warner told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf.

The current NFL Network analyst had some tips for Kolb as well.

“The thing I’d like to see Kevin develop is a little more touch, the ability to drop the ball up and over some linebackers, the ability on some of those screens to make the ball a little bit easier on these backs,” Warner said.

Warner would also like to see Kolb become a more confident thrower.

“I think he’s hesitant when he plays,” said Warner. “He has to see something come open before he lets the ball go.”

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback said a flexible offensive system was the biggest factor for him as a quarterback.

“That is always a huge key, is can coaches have the flexibility to say ‘Okay, what does this guy do well and how can we cater our system to him,’ instead of vice versa,” Warner said.
