Sunday’s spring training game at Tempe Diablo Stadium generated a lot of buzz on social media, but not necessarily for the performance of either the Los Angeles Angels or the Kansas City Royals.
Fox Sports Kansas City reports a swarm of bees gravitated toward a microphone on the screen behind home plate and delayed the started of the Royals-Angels matchup by 10 minutes. The Angels’ defense was forced off the field, and some spectators had to move a few rows back.

The Angels had already taken the field and completed their warmups by the time the bees arrived and caused them to seek shelter in the first-base dugout.
The swarm struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning, and a beekeeper was called in to handle the situation. The swarm caused fans to leave the first six rows near the immediate area, and the game was held up for another nine minutes.

Apparently, firearms were useless against them.
The Royals made things even worse for the home team, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to complete a 6-4 comeback win.
Tempe Diablo Stadium has a history of bees invading the park, with the Tempe Fire Department extinguishing a swarm before a spring training game last season. The Los Angeles Times even reported a bee swarm back in 1996.
Fox Sports notes the Angels, ironically, have two minor league affiliates nicknamed the Bees: Triple-A Salt Lake and Low-A Burlington.
