Boy with leukemia signs one-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks

Apr 7, 2015, 1:27 AM | Updated: 1:27 am

It turned out to be a Monday that will live in infamy for one young fan of the Atlanta Hawks.

Meet Lake, a Hawks fanatic diagnosed with leukemia, who signed a one-day contract with the organization thanks to “The Bert Show” in Atlanta. The show also runs “Bert’s Big Adventure”, a non-profit organization that provides Disney trips and unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for kids with chronic and/or terminal illnesses and their families.

The day started with the Hawks’ team bus pulling up to Lake’s house early Monday morning.

The team bus then drove Lake to the studio where he would be officially announced as the Hawks’ newest roster addition by part-owner Steve Koonin and the Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders.

With the Hawks gearing up for what they hope is a deep playoff run, they’ll have their biggest fan and roster addition supporting the team the entire way.
