D-backs game in St. Louis matches coldest in team history

Apr 7, 2018, 3:29 PM

The thermometer at Busch Stadium Saturday morning recorded a first pitch temperature of 37 degrees, which matched the lowest temperature of any D-backs game in team history.

It was the same temperature when the D-backs took the field against the Rockies at Coors Field on April 12, 2004.

For some D-backs players like Paul Goldschmidt, the cold didn’t have much of an effect.

For most others like shortstop Ketel Marte and even the home-town Cardinals first baseman Jose Martinez, staying bundled up was a top priority.

Fans in the stands could be seen wearing parkas, a clothing item usually reserved for January football games.

In the game, the Cardinals cooled off the D-backs, securing a 5-3 win.

Goldschmidt, who braved the elements sleeveless, went 1-for-4 with one run, one walk and two strikeouts.

Meanwhile, shortstop/second baseman Ketel Marte, who wore long sleeves and a ski mask under his cap to keep his face warm, went 1-for-5 with one strikeout on the day.
