Arizona State sophomore Eno Benjamin was named as one of 13 semifinalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given to the top offensive player in the nation from Texas.

Benjamin was recently named a Doak Walker Award semifinalist, presented to the nation’s top running back.

He ranks top 10 in the nation in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns and all-purpose yards per game. He was one of 31 running backs on the season who have played 300 or more snaps without fumbling the football.

Earl Campbell was personally impressed with the recent play of Benjamin so much that he called ASU head coach Herm Edwards and left him a message.

“I played against Earl Campbell, so I called him back,” said Edwards. “We have this conversation. Obviously, Eno is from Texas. We know where Earl is from and he says, ‘Coach, I like your running back.'”

Benjamin was the only player named on the list from the Pac-12. Six players were from the Big-12, three from the SEC and one each were from the Big 10, Conference USA and American Athletic Conference.

Finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 5, while a winner will be crowned on Jan. 9.
