The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed right-handed pitcher Matt Andriese on the 10-day injured list due to a left foot contusion, the team announced in a press release on Saturday.

Andriese has gone 4-4 with a 5.91 ERA, 51 punchouts and one save over 45.2 innings in 37 games for the Diamondbacks this season.

“That stemmed from the groundball that was hit off his foot yesterday, and you go out there and these athletes want to grind through anything,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said of Andriese’s injury.

“He told us he was fine. We’re glad it wasn’t broken. He had some imaging done and everything was okay, but it just swelled up on him after the game last night. He got a little bit uncomfortable.

“We just felt like it would be a good thing to get him off his feet and give him some treatment and give that area a rest. But it was one of those situations where he got out there and kept getting after it even though he wasn’t feeling right.”

In a corresponding move, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Stefan Crichton from Triple-A Reno.

Over two stints with the D-backs this season, Crichton has allowed five earned runs in 10 innings pitched (4.50 ERA) but has 11 strikeouts and only a .194 opponent batting average in eight games, seven of which were scoreless.

His last outing for Arizona was a scoreless 2.1 inning showing against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 26.

The 27-year-old is 2-3 with a 4.34 ERA and one save over 47.2 innings pitched for the Aces in 2019.
