ASU football unveils uniforms for Salute to Service vs. USC

Nov 8, 2019, 1:00 PM | Updated: 3:54 pm

The Arizona State Sun Devils’ game against USC on Saturday at Sun Devil Stadium will double as their Salute to Service game.

It’s fitting for ASU to have such a game, as the most iconic player in program history, Pat Tillman, became an international symbol of military sacrifice when he left his football career for one in the military and was killed overseas.

ASU football revealed its uniforms on Thursday for the Salute to Service game by showing off photos of the threads on Twitter. The photos included a Pat Tillman statue, which greets players entering the field at the north end of the stadium.

The uniforms themselves are a black and gold alternate set with stripes resembling the Arizona State flag. But the helmets appear to have a camouflage stripe down the middle that is made of up ASU’s colors, along with black and grey.

“Somewhere inside, we hear a voice. It leads us in the direction of who we wish to become,” a plaque on the statue reads, displaying a famous quote from Tillman. “But it is up to us whether or not to follow.”

The uniforms aren’t the only things getting a makeover either, as the field is donning a new look for Saturday.

ASU (5-3, 2-3 Pac-12) is coming off a bye week and will host a USC team (5-4, 4-2 Pac-12) that is coming off a 56-24 loss to now-No. 7 Oregon.

Kickoff for the Sun Devils and Trojans is at 1:30 p.m. with pre-game coverage starting two hours before on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
