After a 36-year-old Mesa hairstylist with a 9-month-old daughter was put off work due to the coronavirus, she was helped by Arizona Cardinals broadcaster Dave Pasch.

Danielle Ferguson had just $125 when her salon was shut down indefinitely, according to the Cardinals website. A friend told her to reach out to Pasch.

Last week, Pasch tweeted that he wanted to help Phoenix families who had lost income because of COVID-19.

“I honestly didn’t know what he would be able to help with,” Ferguson said to AZCardinals.com reporter Kyle Odegard. “I (would have been) grateful for help with a bag of groceries.

“He was like, ‘What financially can you not take care of right now? What’s your biggest hurdle?’ I said, ‘Honestly, I’m terrified I’m not going to be able to make rent.'”

Pasch paid her March rent.

He told Odegard that he initially didn’t plan to share the stories of him helping others, but hopes that it will encourage others in positions like his to do the same.

“I’ve had so many DMs. I can only help (so many),” Pasch said. “I’m not a professional athlete or a multi-billion dollar company, and that’s why I’m really just trying to get the word out. Even if it’s just a couple people each. One person each. It can be a $10 bill, a $1,000 bill. Whatever it is.

“Maybe we can get the word out and, I don’t want to say start a movement, but have enough people to help some hurting people in the Valley. Just to lessen the burden, to carry one another’s burden during this time.”

Two days after his initial tweet, Pasch posted another in which he asked people who had the means to help others.

While there were some famous names in his replies — including former NFL quarterback Christian Ponder and his wife, NFL Countdown host Sam Ponder — there were also responses from everyday citizens offering to help.
