Cardinals CB Robert Alford is 100% after season-ending broken leg

Apr 8, 2020, 6:01 PM

The Arizona Cardinals were missing a major piece of their defense in 2019.

Cornerback Robert Alford suffered a broken leg in training camp and missed the entire regular season. This came after Arizona signed Alford to a three-year deal last offseason to man the opposite side of the field to Patrick Peterson.

With Peterson’s six-game PED suspension as well, that compromised Arizona’s secondary at the start of the season.

Alford’s injury, suffered in mid-August and reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport at the time as a tibia fracture, is one that Alford is fully recovered from.

“I’m feeling good,” he told the Cardinals’ Lisa Matthews. “I’m 100%.”

Alford had 76 starts under his belt with Atlanta from 2013-18 before the Falcons cut him last offseason.

The leg injury for Alford was the first time he had miss significant time in his NFL career, so you would be wise to assume he’s chomping at the bit to return.

“I’m very eager to get back and show my work, the reason why they bought me in last year,” Alford said. “For me, I’m just eager and every day is pushing me to be a better player.”

Alford has been using his home gym and open fields by his house in Georgia to stay in proper shape for the season after he finished out his rehab.

The seven-year veteran has 291 career tackles, 10 interceptions, 85 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
