The Houston Texans drafted TCU defensive tackle Ross Blacklock on Friday using the Arizona Cardinals’ second-round pick that they acquired in exchange for DeAndre Hopkins in a trade last month.

The Cardinals traded the 40th overall pick, running back David Johnson and a 2021 fourth-round pick for Hopkins and a 2020 fourth-round pick. The Cardinals, barring a trade, will select with the latter pick 131st overall on Saturday.

Blacklock had 40 tackles, nine for loss with 3.5 sacks, as a junior least year at TCU. He was a First-Team All-Big 12 selection and as a freshman in 2017 was the co-winner of Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. He missed 2018 with an injury.

At 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds, Blacklock ran a 4.9-second 40-yard dash at the combine.

The Cardinals were set to meet with Blacklock at his pro day on March 27, but that was scrapped as the coronavirus pandemic canceled scheduled in-person meetings and workouts for NFL prospects.

Because of the trade, the Cardinals were without a pick in the second round of Friday’s Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Cardinals had two second-round picks last year after trading Josh Rosen; Arizona took cornerback Byron Murphy and wide receiver Andy Isabella.

This year, in the first round, the Cardinals were fortunate to have Clemson defender Isaiah Simmons fall to eighth overall on Thursday. Perhaps that’s fine consolation for sitting out the second round.
