Phoenix Rising FC announced an update on Thursday that outlined how the USL is proceeding as its season has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The initial suspension of the USL season ran through May 10, but that is no longer a reasonable timeline for resuming the season. The suspension of the season has thus been extended, but the USL has elected not to announce a new return-to-play target date.

“The USL will await further guidance and clarity from local, state and national health authorities before announcing a new earliest return to play date,” a statement said.

A training moratorium has also been extended to May 15.

“However, USL is also exploring scenarios that would allow for players to return to training facilities to conduct individual or small group work prior to May 15,” the statement said. “Any re-opening of club facilities will be done in accordance with local and state guidelines, and with all involved adhering to strict players social distancing protocols.”

Phoenix Rising FC had a game slated for March 7 against Portland Timbers II, and Rising FC won that game 6-1. But the club didn’t get to its next game of 2020 before the USL announced the suspension of the season.
