Suns G Devin Booker hits very long 3-pointer from Tallahassee

Aug 10, 2020, 1:48 PM | Updated: 4:58 pm

Devin Booker might need to go through quarantine after leaving the Orlando bubble in order to hit a three-point shot against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With about eight seconds left on the shot clock in the third quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ sixth bubble game, the Thunder did a fine job trapping Booker and blowing up a play. So Jevon Carter passed the ball back out to Booker to make something happen.

That’s when Booker, a little indecisive, picked up his dribble near halfcourt. The clock was dwindling so he opted to at least give his team a chance at not wasting a possession.

He took a set jumper from the NBA logo and drained it.

The shot registered at 39 feet.

By the end of the third quarter, Booker had 35 points as the Suns had built a 98-81 lead despite less-than-ideal circumstances Monday. They went on to win 128-101, moving to 6-0 in the bubble.

Phoenix started Dario Saric in place of big man Deandre Ayton, who missed the first quarter due to a missed coronavirus test on Sunday that required another test — and fast analysis of its results — on Monday.

The Suns trailed by as many as 15 in the first half before taking a 65-64 lead by halftime and then blowing the game open in the third with Ayton back in the starting lineup.

Of course, Booker had a lot to do with Phoenix staying afloat, and he got help with 15 first-half points by rookie forward Cam Johnson, among other contributions.

But the highlight for fans was Booker’s very, very deep trey.
