Suns owner Robert Sarver issues statement on postponements

Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver issued a statement Thursday in the wake of postponements across the sporting world that started in the NBA.
Players in the NBA and beyond have been sitting out from their games, causing them to be postponed, in an effort to support social justice issues in the wake of the recent shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin. The WNBA followed suit, postponing games on Wednesday and Thursday.
“While I can’t relate to what our Black players are feeling and experiencing today, I sympathize with them, listen to them, and support them,” Sarver’s statement read. “I remain personally ready, willing and able to work side by side with our Suns, Mercury and other WNBA and NBA players and coaches to bring about criminal justice reform.
“We have done it before locally, fighting discriminatory legislation in our state and unfair sheriffing in our county, specifically advocating to defeat SB-1070 that legalized racial profiling in 2010.

Players in the NBA voted Thursday to continue the playoffs, but Thursday’s games will be postponed, the league announced.
The NBA is currently in the playoffs, and the Suns did not qualify. The WNBA, however, is in its regular season, and the Phoenix Mercury’s Wednesday night game was postponed.
