Wi-Fi at Chase Field offers replay and box scores

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks are bringing the comforts of home to games at Chase Field.

The Digital Dbacks Wi-Fi portal allows fans at the ballpark to see and do things they thought they could have only by watching the games at home on television — things like instant replays and up-to-the-minute box scores.

“What we compete with is the quality of broadcasting now when fans get in the habit of staying at home and being in what the consider the best seat in the house right behind the pitcher,” said Dbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall. “We challenge ourselves to come up with ways that still give an advantage to the person coming in person to see that game… They’re going to have access to information, replays, videos, stats, etc. that nobody at home can get.”

Wi-fi also provides concession stand locations and menu items — all you need is a smart phone or tablet with wi-fi capability.

The D-backs are the third team in Major League Baseball to provide the service. And it’s free.

AT&T has installed 278 Wi-Fi access points throughout Chase Field.

Besides instant replays and up-to-the-moment game information, fans also can access information about Chase Field and get instructions on how to text Security about any problems. They also can access closed captioning of every public address announcement for hearing-impaired fans.

The D-backs tested the Wi-Fi portal during its season-opening nine-game homestand and unveiled it to the public Friday night.
