Cardinals safety Budda Baker was mic’d up for Arizona’s primetime matchup with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 at State Farm Stadium on Sunday Night Football.
Baker led all defenders with 14 total tackles (11 solo and one tackle for loss) to go along with an interception in the Cardinals’ 37-34 OT win over the Seahawks on Sunday night.
The two-time Pro-Bowler was constantly calling out what to look for from Seattle’s offense, including shouting out, “Hey screen left, screen left!” before picking off the attempted touchdown pass to running back Chris Carson.
Unfortunately for Baker, the would-be pick-six was cut short by Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, who managed to catch up to the safety and bring him down after a 90-yard return.
“How’d he catch (me), what the (expletive)?!” Baker said on the sideline following the play.
But Arizona had other concerns than just Metcalf, who Baker was constantly identifying on the field by calling out, “14 in the slot, 14 in the slot!”
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and the running game were also focal points of the Cardinals’ defensive gameplan on Sunday night, as Baker was also constantly coaching the defense on how to bring down RB Carson.
“Wrap his legs up, baby. Let’s wrap his legs up,” Baker said. “We have to hit his legs and wrap up. We can’t be high because he’s gonna get 3-4 yards.”
And when it comes to bringing Wilson down, Baker admitted to Cardinals linebacker Jordan Hicks that he “missed a sack” and that it was on him.
In the fourth quarter, Baker and Arizona All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson were discussing the magnitude of the situation as the game was coming down to the wire.
“This is where legends are born. Legends are born here. Let’s be a legend,” Baker said.
And after kicker Zane Gonzalez hit the game-winning field goal in overtime, Baker summed up the game quite simply: “Great win, man. Great win.”
