Kingsbury: Cardinals move forward after no coronavirus positives Sunday

The Arizona Cardinals planned to practice as scheduled Monday after all of their Sunday coronavirus tests came back negative, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said.

Of course, plans could always change with lagging signs of COVID-19, but as of early Monday there was optimism that two positives tests found “this weekend,” according to Kingsbury, would not severely impact Arizona’s roster or the team’s ability to prepare for a Sunday home game against the Miami Dolphins.

“Luckily, the contact tracing was limited and yesterday’s test results were all negative,” Kingsbury said.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Sunday that two players tested positive for the virus during the bye week, leading to Arizona’s practice facility in Tempe being closed Sunday for a deep cleaning.

Despite the two positive tests, Kingsbury said Monday that the Cardinals expected to conduct a normal practice. He remained optimistic Arizona could move forward without disruption.

“You never know with this situation as it’s pretty fluid day-to-day, but I feel like having the all negatives come back from Sunday is a big step in the right direction,” he said. “Just hope that continues throughout the week.”

Though the Cardinals were on a bye, players were required to visit the practice facility daily during the off week for morning coronavirus testing.

Prior to the two positive tests for players, whom Kingsbury did not name, Arizona’s roster had hardly been impacted by the virus, which has caused cancellations and postponements of other NFL teams’ games.

Cardinals receiver KeeSean Johnson went on the COVID-19/reserve in mid-September, but it was not confirmed whether he had the virus or was put on the coronavirus reserve list because of close contact with someone who did, per league protocols.
