Beanie Wells: I’ll be ready come September 9

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — For many, it was a surprise when
the Cardinals announced Tuesday that running back Beanie
Wells had been placed on the active/physically unable to
perform list, meaning he is unable to practice.
Wells, however, was not.
“I knew what we were going to do from the beginning,” he
said Wednesday, six months after undergoing what he called
a “scope” on his right knee. (He did not provide any
further details.)
Wells can come off the list at any point during training
camp.
“I’m going to take my time,” he said. “I’m going to
definitely take my time. I don’t think anybody wants to
see a 75-percent Beanie Wells. Everybody wants to see a
100-percent Beanie Wells and that’s what I want to give.”
Wells was less than 100-percent for much of last season
yet still managed to rush for over 1,000 yards.
“It’s one of those things that, it takes time,” he said of
his recovery. “(The knee) is getting better each day.”
Wells missed all of mini-camp and every one of the team’s
OTAs in the offseason. He now has missed the team’s first
practice of camp.
How much more time he’ll miss is unknown. He did
sound confident, however, that it won’t be much longer.
“I know for a fact that there’s no question whether I’ll
be ready for September 9th or not,” he said of the
Cardinals opener against Seattle six weeks away. “It’s
just a matter of letting things calm down and not putting
so much wear and tear.
“I’ll be out there back before you know it.”
