Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins missed practice on Thursday with a “minor thing,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters.

Kingsbury didn’t specify if the absence was injury related.

“I expect him back very soon,” Kingsbury added. “We won’t go into detail but it’s just minor. Should be a quick return.”

Hopkins is among expected contributors who have already missed practices during the first week of training camp. Defensive end J.J. Watt on Wednesday said a hamstring issue that popped up following the team’s conditioning test placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Along with Hopkins missing practice on Thursday, five players were placed into COVID-19 protocols: center Rodney Hudson, guard Justin Pugh, receiver Andy Isabella and receiver KeeSean Johnson.

This came after a report indicated the Cardinals were among the NFL teams who had reached 90% vaccination rate among players.

The five new players now under COVID-19 protocols join OL Deion Calhoun, WR Rico Gafford and cornerback Lorenzo Burns, who were already on the list.

Hopkins finished 2020, his first year with Arizona, third in the NFL with 1,407 receiver yards. He tied for second with 115 receptions and scored six touchdowns.
