She performed what’s known as an aerial while throwing out the first pitch.
The 21-year-old, who currently resides in Phoenix, competed in the Tokyo Olympics this summer and won gold in the women’s floor exercise with Team USA.
She was a member of the teams that won gold at the 2019 World Championships and the 2018 Pan American Championships as well.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego on Aug. 17 declared the day as “Jade Carey Day,” which was also followed by Tempe vice mayor Randy Keating declaring it “Jade Carey Recognition Day.”
Carey will be participating in fellow gymnast Simone Biles’ Gold Over America Tour that will visit various cities across the country this fall.
The tour will celebrate powerful women athletes that compete in gymnastics and will appear in Tucson on Sept. 21 and in Phoenix on Sept. 22.
Tickets are available for purchase now.
