Kliff or Luke? Kingsbury thinks ‘Star Wars’ could do Kyler Murray some good

Sep 20, 2021, 4:27 PM | Updated: 4:39 pm

You would think we lived on Tatooine with the amount of “Star Wars” references — intentional or not — the Arizona Cardinals have had this season.

From the sounds of it, that’s quite alright for head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

But what’s not OK is the fact that starting quarterback Kyler Murray hasn’t taken the time to truly appreciate a certain space opera.

“I was pretty heartbroken that Kyler’s never seen ‘Star Wars’, because from about age 4-to-9 I wanted nothing more in life than to be Luke Skywalker. I think he could learn something from that trilogy, if you will.”

The talk about a galaxy far, far away first started with Kingsbury and his comparison of DeAndre Hopkins’ scoring moves in Week 1 along the lines of Obi-Wan Kenobi or Mace Windu, calling the wideout’s abilities “Jedi-like.”

Chandler Jones came in like a proton torpedo not too long after with his comparison of quarterback Kyler Murray to Baby Yoda after the quarterback called out the linebacker’s body during practice last week.

Then came Sunday.

With under four minutes to play in the first half and facing a 20-7 deficit, Murray found the end zone on a 12-yard run.

But before the kicking unit could run out onto the field, Murray celebrated with an end zone meditation that looked awfully familiar to Baby Yoda — Grogu — trying to reach out to Luke through the Force.

The brakes were quickly pumped postgame, with Murray divulging that he’s never seen “Star Wars”, adding that it’s too long.

“I got to my phone and I see people talking about Baby Yoda but I had no clue what that was,” Murray said. “I wasn’t intending to do that.”

Someone check his Midi-chlorian count to be sure.
