After further evaluation, Arizona Cardinals rookie cornerback Marco Wilson’s outlook for Sunday’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys appears bleak.
Wilson, who is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in last week’s loss, was also not with the team during the open portion of practice on Wednesday. His outlook does not look so promising.
“Doesn’t look good for this week,” Kingsbury said. “We’ll see how it progresses throughout the week but that’s where it’s at.”
It will be a tough blow for the Cardinals secondary if Wilson is unable to play on Sunday.
With Robert Alford (pectoral) on the injured reserve, Byron Murphy and Wilson were the lone starters on the depth chart before the latter’s exit on Saturday.
In his first NFL season, Wilson has recorded 48 tackles, four passed defensed and forced two fumbles over 14 games.
Wilson’s absence will likely mean extended reps for cornerback Antonio Hamilton, who filled in nicely earlier this season in Week 5 when both Murphy and Wilson were out due to rib injuries. He also started in place of Robert Alford in Week 16, recording the second-most tackles on the team with seven.
“We don’t know as far as what (Wilson’s) status is going to be,” Hamilton said Tuesday. “He’s optimistic about trying to play, so whatever he’s feeling, if the team thinks that he’s healthy enough to go out and perform, I feel he wants to if he’s able to go that he will go.”
The Cardinals could also turn to practice squad options in Kevin Peterson, Jace Whittaker and reported recent signing Isaiah Johnson, but must elevate them to the active roster prior to the matchup.
