Oops! Zach Johnson accidentally hits golf ball off tee at WM Phoenix Open

Feb 11, 2022, 6:15 PM

“That’s one!” is usually the reaction most get when they accidentally hit their golf ball when they’re clearly not trying to.

While the typical dad joke usually gets a chuckle or two from the peanut gallery, the golfer at fault has to swallow some pride as they re-tee before letting it actually rip.

Now, imagine if you did that at the WM Phoenix Open with spectators and cameras galore.

During the second round of the tournament, PGA pro Zach Johnson was that guy.

After navigating No. 16 with a par, Johnson was faced with the short par 4 that is the 17th. As he stepped back to survey the hole — and the massive amount of fans looking on — Johnson swung his driver ever slightly, making contact with his teed up golf ball.

Luckily for Johnson, the golfer was able to re-tee because he wasn’t addressing the golf ball and didn’t intentionally mean to hit it.

That’s good news for Johnson, who went on to birdie the hole and make the cut at 3-under.

The best part of it all, though?

It wasn’t his first time having an accidental misfire on the tee box.

During The Masters in 2019, Johnson was caught on camera accidentally hitting his golf ball during a practice swing. That time, however, Johnson wasn’t so sure about how to proceed.

At least at TPC Scottsdale he didn’t have to wonder what to do this time around!
