Arizona Wildcats guard Bennedict Mathurin has been named the Pac-12 player of the week following two 20-point games in wins over Oregon State and Oregon last week, the conference announced Monday.

The National Player of the Year candidate scored 20 points in the 83-69 win over the Beavers and then added a game-high 24 points in the Wildcats’ win over the Ducks on Saturday. Mathurin has now scored 20 points in four-straight games.

It marks the third time this season Mathurin has been named player of the week after doing so in consecutive weeks in December. He becomes to first Arizona player to win the award three times in a season since Derrick Williams did so in the 2010-11 season.

Mathurin made his impact felt in more ways than just scoring against Oregon, adding seven rebound and five assists. For the week, Mathurin had six assists and zero turnovers in 68 minutes of action.

It’s the fifth time this season a Wildcats player has been named player of the week, which ties the most for a single season in the program’s history.

Mathurin is averaging 17.4 points per game, to go with 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists on the season.

Now the No. 2 team in the country, the Wildcats are back in action on Thursday as they travel to Utah.
