Cardinals’ Vance Joseph watches DL Logan Hall, CB Marcus Jones at Houston pro day

Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph attended the Houston Cougars’ pro day on Friday, getting an in-person look at defensive lineman Logan Hall and cornerback Marcus Jones.

Hall is considered a top-50 prospect. ESPN’s Todd McShay recently listed him in a tier of players who are more often mocked as Cardinals targets: Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green, Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis and Michigan edge David Ojabo.

Hall is listed at 6-foot-6 and 283 pounds and in Houston’s 3-4 defense played on the edge and interior. At present, he would presumably have to compete for playing time with J.J. Watt and Zach Allen at end.

“(Hall is) a big guy who has great movement skills,” Joseph told FOX 26’s Mark Berman. “He’s obviously a guy that’s heating up in the draft and it’s fun to watch him work out.

“The size, the movement, he’s in great shape. The league now has become a lateral game, so to have big guys who can run and hustle constantly, it gives a defense a huge advantage. He’s a kid who can obviously run and make plays in the backfield, obviously rush the passer.”

Hall recorded 47 tackles with six sacks in 2021.

He could presumably add weight and be viewed as more of defensive tackle with time, writes NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein.

Hard-working, two-year starter with projectable frame and developmental traits whose best positional fit could be in the eye of the beholder. Hall played defensive tackle in college, but his playing style and physical profile are better suited for defensive end in a 3-4 alignment. He’s segmented and a little gradual in his attack, but flashes violent hands and forward charge as an interior rusher. Improvement lies ahead for Hall, but he needs a scheme fit and extended runway as a rotational lineman.

Jones is considered a top-100 prospect. He posted five interceptions and 13 pass deflections.

Though he is listed at 5-foot-8, his instincts stand out. Joseph said he has met with Jones in the process.

“Marcus is a guy that’s played on both sides of the ball,” Joseph said. “Obviously a great nickel player. He’s played some outside corner with his size and has some success in this league. He’s also a great returner. Meeting with Marcus, he’s very, very intelligent so that’s going to always be a plus for a player.”

Jones caught 10 balls for 109 yards and a touchdown on offense last season, then added two touchdowns each on punt and kick returns.

Joseph also got a peek at 5-foot-10 cornerback Damarion Williams, a projected slot corner who posted 63 tackles with an interception last season.

“He’s a kid that has got great film,” Joseph said. “Obviously, undersized a little bit but can make great plays. His film speaks to being an NFL corner. That’s what I saw.”
