3-star QB Israel Carter commits to ASU, former UF QB Emory Jones visits

Apr 22, 2022, 4:43 PM

Arizona State and head coach Herm Edwards are still searching for the starting quarterback of next season after the departure of Jayden Daniels to LSU.

ASU may have found their quarterback for the future beyond that in 2023 three-star Israel Carter, who committed to the Sun Devils on Friday, per his Instagram account.

The No. 47 ranked quarterback, Carter attends Centennial in Corona, California, the home of former Sun Devils in Vontaze Burfict and Will Sutton.

The junior quarterback threw for 844 yards and eight touchdowns with an interception in 2021-22, completing 60% of his passes on 95 attempts.

He also added 316 yards rushing, averaging seven yards per carry with eight touchdowns.

Also for ASU, former Florida Gators and four-star quarterback Emory Jones is set to visit this weekend, as first reported by Arizona Sports‘ John Gambadoro.

Jones was a highly touted prospect out of high school in Georgia, who originally committed to Ohio State before flipping to Florida. He was the 85th rated player in his class and the fifth-ranked dual-threat quarterback, according to 247Sports.com.

The QB posted 2,734 passing yards on 64.7 % passing while throwing 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2021.

He coupled this by adding 759 rushing yards on 143 attempts and four rushing touchdowns.

Jones played for four seasons in Gainesville and went 6-7 in his final season with the Gators before entering the transfer portal.

The Sun Devils currently have Alabama transfer Paul Tyson, redshirt sophomore Daylin McLemore, redshirt junior Trenton Bourguet, redshirt freshman Finn Collins and true freshman Bennett Meredith in the quarterback room.

If Jones were to commit, he would lead the way in overall college experience and statistics over the other five signal callers.

Although the Sun Devils are hoping to add Jones, the losses keep on coming as wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and linebacker Eric Gentry entered the transfer portal on Thursday.

ASU opens the season on Sept. 1 against Northern Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium.
