The Arizona Diamondbacks placed starting pitcher Humberto Castellanos on the Paternity List and recalled pitcher Taylor Widener from Triple-A Reno, the team announced Sunday morning.

Castellanos started Saturday night against the New York Mets and tossed five innings in a 5-2 win for Arizona. He shut out New York through four innings before surrendering a pair of runs in the fifth.

In two starts this year — both against New York — Castellanos has tossed nine frames and allowed two runs.

Widener takes his spot on the roster after pitching six innings at Triple-A this season.

The 27-year-old — who was the D-backs’ No. 2 prospect on MLB Pipeline entering the 2019 campaign — has thrown 35 games with 13 starts in the majors over the past two years.

Widener owned a 4.35 ERA in 70.1 frames last season when he split time as a starter and reliever.

He finished the year out of the bullpen and found success with a 2.25 ERA over his final eight appearances.

The D-backs have had to do some shuffling with their pitching staff as three relivers are on the Injured List: Sean Poppen, Luke Weaver and J.B. Bukauskas.

Arizona has managed, though, with the 11th-lowest team ERA in MLB at 3.32.

The D-backs take on the Mets Sunday at 1:10 p.m. for a chance to win their first series of the season. Madison Bumgarner will start for Arizona, and you can tune in on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
