The Arizona Cardinals signed former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Marcell Ateman on Thursday.
Ateman appeared in one game for Las Vegas last season after racking up 20 receptions for 270 yards and one touchdown in his first two years with the Raiders from 2019-20.
The signing comes shortly after head coach Kliff Kingsbury said that wideout Antoine Wesley is being looked at for a hip/groin injury.
“We’re still evaluating it, had the MRI, and I think it’s going to take a week or so before we really know where it’s at,” Kingsbury said.
Wesley is in the running to receive a fair share of the snaps that need to be filled for the first six weeks of the season during DeAndre Hopkins’ suspension. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is also working his way back from a hamstring injury.
To make room for Ateman on the roster, the Cardinals released offensive lineman Eric Smith.
Smith was signed in September of last year and appeared in one game.
