On an emergency episode of State of the Sun Devils, an Arizona Sports podcast, Jesse Morrison, Jeremy Schnell and Arizona State reporter Jake Anderson react to ASU head coach Herm Edwards naming Emory Jones as the team’s starting quarterback on Thursday.
The trio also discuss Edwards’ injury update on defensive backs Jordan Clark and Timarcus Davis, as well as defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera, who the head coach said are all week-to-week and won’t be rushed back.

Earlier in the week, Arizona State tight end Messiah Swinson joined the show as the first-ever guest on State of the Sun Devils
The towering 6-foot-8, 255-pound Swinson discusses why he transferred from Missouri to Arizona State, how he fits in new Sun Devils offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas’ offense and his late father being a former NFL player.
Morrison, Schnell and Anderson break down how the season-ending left ACL injury to redshirt senior defensive end Michael Matus will impact ASU’s defense and D-line.
The trio also discusses the importance of the AP Top 25 preseason poll.
Additionally, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh on Tuesday named the seven-man O-line rotation, with LaDarius Henderson and Ben Scott being locked in at the left guard and center positions, respectively.
Cavanaugh also mentioned that he is looking forward to his big brawlers up front blocking for Arizona State’s one-two punch backfield of Wyoming transfer Xazavian Valladay and redshirt sophomore Daniyel Ngata.
Our goal for the rest of the season is to get @Mswinson80 to meet @TonyGonzalez88. Let's make it happen Sun Devil nation!#ForksUp /// #O2V
