Terrible Colts trick play satirized in Tecmo Super Bowl form

Oct 19, 2015, 5:00 PM | Updated: Oct 20, 2015, 12:11 pm

The 2015 season hasn’t exactly gone as expected for the Indianapolis Colts.  Despite leading the AFC South with a 3-3 overall record, the Colts have experienced all matter of frustration, whether it be between general manager Ryan Grigson and head coach Chuck Pagano, Andrew Luck’s bum shoulder or a roster that has at times reflected its status as the oldest team in the NFL in terms of average age (27.17).

However, all of that took a back seat to perhaps the most mystifying play call we’ll see in the NFL this season.  On 4th and 3 trailing 27-21 with 1:14 left to play in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game versus the New England Patriots, the Colts attempted this play — a play that had the earmarkings of doom from the very beginning.

Since the infamous play was run, it quickly became internet fodder and earned the distinction as the “worst play ever.”  Many creative minds have tried their hand at satirizing the play, but perhaps the best parody of the play comes courtesy of The Cauldron, who provided the replay in the form of the classic 1991 video game Tecmo Super Bowl.
