Tyrann Mathieu, the greatest pound for pound football player in the world

The term “pound for pound” is a convenient way for people to compare boxing champions from different weight classes.

You ever wonder why that term isn’t used in football more? After all, there are different positions manned by players of different shapes and sizes.

With that in mind, we at Arizona Sports have crowned Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu as the pound for pound greatest football player in the world. That’s right, we said it … the world!

In his third year in the NFL, “The Honey Badger” has wreaked havoc on opposing offenses. The former LSU star has racked up 46 total tackles, one quarterback sack, one forced fumble and two interceptions, including one he took back to the house for a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers.

Considering Mathieu stands just 5-foot-9 and weighs 186 pounds, that’s a lot of production per pound!

If you don’t believe us, just take a look at the hard, irrefutable data compiled by the Arizona Sports Science Laboratory.

FiercessQuotient

As you can see, Mathieu’s fierceness quotient is an unprecedented 32.0, almost four times greater than any of the other diminutive players in the NFL.

Disagree? Do you believe there’s a better pound for pound player than the Honey Badger? Feel free to share your opinions on Facebook or Twitter by using #P4P. But just know this going in: if you suggest somebody else, you’re wrong.
