Kris Bryant is having fun.
And why shouldn’t he? The 24-year-old is the reigning National League Rookie of the Year (or is he a junior college baseball mystery?) and is a big reason why pundits all over the country are picking the Chicago Cubs to end their 108-year World Series drought.
Bryant makes time for the fans, including one Illinois teen who attended a Cubs Cactus League game at Sloan Park last Friday. Vince Santoria found a creative way to ask his girlfriend, Julia Bertucci, to go to the prom — and it involved Bryant.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Santoria said Bertucci had sort of challenged him to come up with a creative “promposal.”
“I just told her I’m going to come up with this incredible idea, it’s going to get really famous and you just have to accept it,” Santoria said. “And she’s like, ‘OK, if you do something super famous I’ll accept it. And then I had to come up with the idea.”
And, as you might have guessed, Bertucci said “yes.”

You might be thinking “if they’re already a couple, shouldn’t a prom plan be assumed?” Shame on you! This is a young man keeping excitement alive in his relationship. And Bertucci’s whole family is Cubs fans, so he scored points with them too!
Well done, Vince Santoria! And nice assist, Kris Bryant.
