Archie Bradley had his strongest outing of the year on Sunday, and with it, he might end up being the savior for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ starting rotation.

Bradley started in place of Shelby Miller, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the week, and he didn’t disappoint.

Bradley was able to get out of the top of the first inning with a 1-2-3 inning and thanks to a five-run outburst in the second inning, Bradley had all the run support he would need to cruise to his second win of the season.

“He was outstanding going into the eighth inning. He probably had enough left to keep going,” said Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale. “We are happy with his start and it’s something to build on. It’s a good example of good development in the organization.”

Coming off a string of hot starts for Triple-A Reno that saw him earn the Pacific Coast League’s pitcher of the week honors, Bradley picked up where he left off. He pitched 7.1 innings while giving up three runs on four hits. He walked one and had a career-high nine strikeouts.

Bradley’s last start came on May 9, when the 23-year-old allowed four runs on seven hits in a 10-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

With injuries to Miller and Rubby De La Rosa, who joined Miller on the DL this week with right elbow inflammation, Bradley is expected to stick around for the Diamondbacks.
