Arizona State Sun Devils enter Sun Bowl wearing Nike for the final time

All good things must come to an end.

Saturday’s Sun Bowl marks the end of a season and the end of an era.

The Arizona State Sun Devils take on the Duke Blue Devils in El Paso, Texas, seeking a 10th win in back-to-back seasons for the first time in more than 40 years. They’ll enter the fray wearing Nike uniforms for the last time in the foreseeable future.

The Sun Devils will don their white helmets, white jerseys and maroon pants into battle, with the Nike swoosh on their cleats and over their left collarbones.

ASU signed an eight-year deal with adidas on Dec. 16 to outfit its footwear, apparel and accessories starting in July.

Arizona State fans were pleasantly surprised with the "throwback" helmet concept introduced against Arizona in 2014's Territorial Cup game. It featured Sparky, ASU's mascot, on the helmet with traditional colors. Arizona State's all-maroon uniforms sometimes included this specialized pitchfork-wrap helmet, worn in 2014 against Stanford and in 2013 against Texas Tech (with the maroon, white, maroon combination). The helmet was also worn against Oregon State and USC in Tempe and Utah on the road in 2013, as well as against Stanford and Colorado in 2014. Arizona State's all-white uniforms with specialized wrap pitchfork helmet, worn against UCLA in 2013 and against Oregon State in 2014. These fiery helmets with all-black jerseys and pants debuted against Notre Dame in 2013 and were worn again against UCLA in 2014. ASU went 0-2 in the helmets. ASU "Blackout" home alternates 2011. They were also worn in 2012 against Oregon, in 2013 against Wisconsin and in 2014 against UCLA (with specialized helmet). Arizona State's black, black, gold alternates, 2011. Also worn at home against UCLA in 2012. Arizona State's black-white-black alternate combination for 2011's game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl was also worn at Cal and in a Territorial Cup victory in 2012. They were worn against USC in 2014 as well. Arizona State's "new traditional" maroon and gold home combination, 2011, also worn against both Washington State and Northern Arizona in 2012, against Stanford in 2013's Pac-12 title game, against Sacramento State at home in 2013 and against Weber State in 2014. Gold, white, gold road alternates, 2011. Also worn against Oregon State in 2012 and against New Mexico in 2014. Arizona State's "Maroon Monsoon" tradition begins with all-maroon combination, 2011 and was continued at home against Illinois in 2012 and USC in 2013. ASU's maroon, white, maroon road alternates, 2011. Also worn against Colorado in 2012 and Texas Tech in 2013 (with specialized helmets) as well as against Colorado in 2014. ASU's home white, maroon, white alternates, 2011 All-white road alternates, 2011, also worn against USC in 2012. Arizona State's white, black, white combination in the 2012 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl ASU's maroon, maroon, gold combination was worn at home in 2012 against Utah and at home against Colorado in 2013. The Sun Devils' white, white, maroon combination was worn on the road against Mizzou in 2012. ASU's white, black, black uniform combination was worn in a 2013 Territorial Cup victory. The Sun Devils wore this maroon, maroon, white combination (with specialized helmet) against Oregon State in Tempe in 2013. This maroon, white, white (with specialized helmet) combination was worn against Utah in 2013. This gold, white, maroon combination was worn against Washington State in Pullman in 2013 and at Washington in 2014. ASU's gold, maroon, maroon combination was worn against Washington in Tempe in 2013. This white, white, black combination was worn by ASU against Stanford in 2013. The combination of Todd Graham's hiring and the re-vamped Nike uniforms also led to the honoring of former Arizona State phenom and hero Pat Tillman on all uniform combinations. This white, maroon, maroon combination was worn against Washington State in Tempe in 2014. Nike also provided camo-print hats as a part of the "Salute the Troops" initiative.
