Sun Devils win third consecutive game: By the Numbers

Nov 21, 2014, 5:10 AM | Updated: Nov 22, 2014, 4:55 am

The Arizona State Sun Devils were not fooling around this time.

After a poor second half against Bethune-Cookman on Monday, the Sun Devils rode a strong 40-22 second half performance to a 68-44 victory over Loyola Marymount. The win pushes ASU to 3-0 on the young season.

Guard Chance Murray led the way with 12 points, the majority of which came from his 8-for-10 performance from the charity stripe. Three other Sun Devils reached the double-digit mark: Bo Barnes (11), Jonathan Gilling (11) and Shaquielle McKissic (10).

ASU has outscored its opponents by 70 points through the season’s first three games. The Devils will be forced to leave the friendly confines of the Wells Fargo Arena for their next game on Monday when they take on the 3-0 Maryland Terrapins.

Here’s a look at Thursday’s win by the numbers.

1

ASU held Loyola Marymount to just one 3-pointer on Thursday. The Lions went 1-for-11 from behind the line — a dismal 9.1 percent.

2

Things got a bit chippy 3:43 into the second half as each team exchanged in a brief shoving match before an ASU free throw. A double technical foul was handed out, one to ASU’s Eric Jacobsen, the other to LMU’s Evan Payne.

3

Bo Barnes tied his career high in 3-pointers made with three on Thursday. He went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points and three assists.

4

Eric Jacobsen led all players with four blocks, boosting his season total to nine after coming into the season with just 16 career blocks.

17

Turnovers continued to plague the Sun Devils on Thursday. ASU turned the ball over 17 times and have turned the ball over at least 11 times in all three games this season (11, 19 and 17 respectively).

28.1

The Sun Devils held Loyola Marymount to 28.1 percent shooting from the field — the lowest field goal percentage against ASU since Feb. 2010 against Oregon State (24.6 percent).
