Report: Arizona State has talked to New Mexico State’s Marvin Menzies

Just one day after Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel removed himself from consideration for the vacant head basketball coaching position at Arizona State, reports are circulating about new candidates.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, the search has moved one state to the east.

Menzies, 53, has served as the head coach at New Mexico State since 2007, compiling a 156-90 record. He has led the Aggies to five NCAA Tournament appearances in his eight seasons, including this year when NMSU lost to Kansas 75-56 in a second-round Midwest Regional contest.
Menzies’ only other head coaching job was at Santa Monica Community College for the 1994-95 season. He has served as an assistant coach at San Diego State, USC, UNLV and was on Rick Pitino’s staff at Louisville from 2005 to 2007 before heading to Las Cruces.
Pera, a former assistant coach at ASU under Herb Sendek, was part of Mike Rhoades’ staff at Rice in 2014-15.
He spent six years at ASU, starting in 2006 and was instrumental in the recruitment of All-American James Harden.
It was reported Tuesday that Pera interviewed for the position last Saturday.
