We don’t know exactly why or how the Harambe meme took off, but it’s now an accepted part of our social media-driven world.

Just ask the Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper, who while warming up for the Nats’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS was seen swinging away with a Harambe decal on his bat knob that read “RIP.”

Harambe, for those of you still relying on your landline while typing commands in MS-DOS, was the Cincinnati Zoo gorilla who was controversially shot when a small child fell into his enclosure (it wasn’t apparent whether Harambe was protecting the boy or a threat to him).

The online world, and apparently Harper, haven’t forgotten Harambe.

And so #HacksForHarambe took off.

This isn’t Harper’s first rodeo when it comes to making baseball fun again with his bat-knob decals.
