Davonte’ Neal was expected to be an integral part of Arizona’s passing attack last season after finally being eligible to play after transferring from Notre Dame.

Things did not quite go as planned, though, as injuries limited Neal’s time on the field and when he was healthy, he did not make a great impact.

So, after finishing the season with just 27 catches for 214 yards and two touchdowns, Neal approached head coach Rich Rodriguez about moving to the defensive side of the ball.

Rodriguez, speaking in a press conference Wednesday, said he approved Neal’s request to become a cornerback.

Neal played the position some in his prep days for Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
