76ers, Timberwolves tip off game the wrong way

Apparently mistakes are contagious when you’re around the Philadelphia 76ers. Even the refs become prone to miscues.
Take Wednesday’s game between the 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center in Minneapolis, for example.
The two teams tipped off the game and Philadelphia had the first possession, in which the road team drew a quick foul.
Sixers center Henry Sims was about to go to the free throw line when, wait, the refs huddled together and realized that both teams were shooting at the wrong baskets.
So instead of moving Sims to the other foul line, the officials elected to start everything over again, nullifying Minnesota’s foul and Sims’ trip to the charity stripe.
Not something you see every day.
The Sixers shook off the early confusion and jumped out to a 10-point first-quarter lead. The struggling visitors fell behind by halftime, but they stormed back in the second half for their very first win of the season.
Don’t tell Allen Iverson his former team is out of the playoff race yet.

With the victory, Philadelphia avoided tying the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets for the worst-ever start in NBA history.
