D-backs can’t back Collmenter in loss to Royals: By The Numbers

Aug 7, 2014, 5:18 AM | Updated: 1:37 pm

...

Josh Collmenter made the Arizona Diamondbacks look a lot better than they did Tuesday night, when Wade Miley and company lost 12-2 to the Kansas City Royals, but his offense could hardly say as much.

Though collecting 12 hits, as compared with the Royals’ five, the D-backs struggled to drive in runs against right-hander Yordano Ventura and the Kansas City bullpen. The Royals won 4-3.

Collmenter fared well against most of the Royals lineup, but it was Mike Moustakas who provided enough trouble to overcome the D-backs, driving in all four of his team’s runs while going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run from the seven hole.

The D-backs put together rallies in the eighth and ninth innings, but came up empty-handed in the former and logged just a run in the latter, leaving two men on in both frames.

And that was the story of the night for the team, as they were just 2-for-14 with men on base, scoring their three runs on RBI singles by Aaron Hill and David Peralta and a sacrifice fly by Mark Trumbo.

Here’s a look at the loss, by the numbers:
