As the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament is happening in Las Vegas, the man who leads the conference is celebrating a new contract.

Commissioner Larry Scott, who took over the reins from longtime commissioner Tom Hansen in 2009, received a contract extension Thursday morning which will keep him in his position until June of 2022.

“During Larry’s tenure, the Conference has been transformed, not only by expansion, but by innovation and excellence in almost every aspect of our activities,” Gene D. Block, Chair of the Pac-12 Board of Directors said in a press release. “We believe in his bold vision for the Pac-12, and have great confidence in Larry’s ability to help us write the next chapter of our Conference’s illustrious history.”

In his tenure, Scott has spearheaded rebranding and expansion of the conference, adding Utah and Colorado to the fold in time for the 2011-12 academic year. Under his watch, the conference has unveiled its own television network while also striking media rights deals with ESPN and FOX.

“I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve as a Conference,” Scott said, “and I am deeply gratified by the expression of support and confidence that this extension represents. We have many challenges and opportunities ahead, and I look forward to working with our presidents, athletic directors, administrators, coaches, and student-athletes to move the Pac-12 Conference forward in the coming years.”
