Diana Taurasi was given an honor Monday that she’s now had 20 times in her illustrious career.
Taurasi was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the week of May 29-June 4.
She averaged 27 points, 3.5 assists and six made three-pointers in the two games she played that week.
Her standout performance was in Thursday’s win over the Chicago Sky, when Taurasi scored 39 points and hit eight three-pointers. That tied the record for most all-time in one game and her first make also made her the league’s all-time leader in made three-pointers. The scoring outburst also now has Taurasi within 73 points of Tina Thompson for the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer.
The team announced Taurasi had agreed to a multi-year extension with the Mercury in mid-May. She’s spent her entire WNBA career with the Mercury since being drafted by them first overall in 2004.
