The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed right-handed pitcher Troy Scribner off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels and optioned him to Triple-A Reno, the team announced on Friday.
Scribner went 2-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 10 games for the Angels in 2017. Before he was promoted from Triple-A Salt Lake, he led the Pacific Coast League with 10 wins. He also ranked fourth in the league with a .240 opponents average and fifth in strikeouts with 98.
In 20 games for Salt Lake, the 26-year-old went 11-4 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. He also struck out 103 batters and walked 38.
In five total seasons in the minors, Scribner has a 3.73 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP with 511 strikeouts and 192 walks in 107 games.
Signed by the Houston Astros as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2013, he became the first alumnus of Sacred Heart University in Connecticut to appear in the majors.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the D-backs designated outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker for assignment.
The 30-year old batted .346 with 10 RBI and two home runs in 41 games for the D-backs in 2017.
