Former Cardinal Deuce Lutui was hyped to make a pick for Arizona

Apr 27, 2018, 8:48 PM

You can’t teach the energy former Arizona Cardinals offensive guard Deuce Lutui showed Friday night.

When the Cardinals were up at No. 97 in the 2018 NFL Draft, they sent a representative up to the stage to announce the team’s selection like most other teams would on Day 2.

They saved the best for last, as Lutui had one of the most memorable picks of the night.

Continuously grabbing the microphone to make sure everyone could hear him, Lutui began by screaming a couple things before saying he was representing the Cardinals, all while wearing his sunglasses.

Lutui said that “uncle Bill sent the baddest Cardinal to represent,” perhaps a reference to team owner Bill Bidwill.

Before finally getting to the pick, Lutui offered up a motivational quote.

“There’s a difference knowing you can and thinking you can,” Lutui said.

While some former and current players were like Lutui and going off script to open the selection, they all would follow the format of “with the (selection number) selection in the NFL Draft, the (team) select (player).”

Well, the Cardinals guard from 2006-11 skipped all that and just told Michigan offensive lineman Mason Cole, “welcome to the Cardinals.”

Twitter enjoyed Lutui’s cameo.

Cardinals general manager Steve Keim enjoyed the moment as well.
