The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially called up starting pitcher Clay Buchholz from Triple-A Reno and transferred reliever Randall Delgado to the 60-day disabled list, the team announced Sunday.

The move comes after D-backs manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Friday that Buchholz was the likely starter for the final game of Arizona’s series against the New York Mets on Sunday.

Buchholz is 1-1 this season in the minors, spending time with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha and Reno.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has an ERA of 2.93 this season, striking out 19 batters in 27.2 innings and walking 12 more.

Drafted 42nd overall by Boston in 2005, Buchholz made his Major League debut for the Red Sox in 2007, going 3-1 on the year with a 1.59 ERA.

He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016 before he was granted free agency, signing with the Kansas City Royals in March.

Buchholz was released by the Royals on May 1, but was signed by the D-backs three days later on May 4.

He will wear No. 32 for the D-backs when he takes the mound to face Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard.

Delgado was originally placed on the 10-day DL back on March 26 with a strained left oblique.

The D-backs also announced they have optioned right-handed pitcher Jimmie Sherfy to Reno.

Sherfy has made three scoreless appearances for the D-backs this season, pitching 2.0 innings.

In 14 career outings, the 26-year-old hasn’t allowed a single run, the fifth-longest streak by a D-back at the beginning of a career.
