ESPN draft experts change their tunes on Cardinals at No. 5 hours before draft

Apr 28, 2011, 8:27 PM | Updated: 9:30 pm

There have been many names attached to the Arizona Cardinals and their number five pick over the past four months.

On the day of the draft, ESPN Scouts Inc.’s Todd McShay drops in a name at the number five slot that we haven’t heard about during those four months.

In McShay’s latest — and likely last — 2011 NFL mock draft he has the Cardinals selecting Aldon Smith, a defensive end/outside linebacker from Missouri.

Huh?

It just seems a bit out of place that Smith hasn’t been linked to the Cardinals by any other draft “expert” for four months and here we are four hours away and he is.

Smith played end in college but has the tools to move to outside linebacker in Arizona’s 3-4 scheme and provide pass-rush help off the edge.
