ASU offensive tackle Kellen Diesch signs with Miami Dolphins as UDFA

Arizona State offensive tackle Kellen Diesch is off to play for the Miami Dolphins after signing as an undrafted free agent on Saturday, ASU football announced.

Diesch joins linebacker Darien Butler (Las Vegas Raiders), tight end Curtis Hodges (Washington Commanders) and Dohnovan West (San Francisco 49ers) as former Sun Devils to have signed as UDFAs following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Diesch is a 6-foot-7, 301-pound tackle who played two seasons for ASU after transferring from Texas A&M. He ran a 4.89-second 40-yard dash and 4.43-second 20-yard shuttle at the NFL Scouting Combine in March.

Diesch joined the Sun Devils in 2020 after three seasons and a redshirt year at Texas A&M. Pro Football Focus graded him as the best tackle in the Pac-12 in the 2021 season.

He was a four-star prospect in the 2016 class, per 247 Sports.

ESPN analysts Todd McShay and Steve Muench released an NFL Draft prospect tiers list in March, and two Arizona State Sun Devils made Tier 6, which included players 67-106.

Diesch and his teammate, center Dohnovan West, landed in spots No. 98 and No. 102 on the list.

Diesch is one of 11 offensive tackles and West one of four centers among the 106 players listed by ESPN. Tier 6 consisted of players McShay and Muench projected as future starters in the NFL. They had a third-round value, according to the analysts.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein projected Diesch as an early Day 3 draft selection:

Diesch is highly athletic with the initial quickness and fluidity to stand out on reach blocks, second-level cut-offs and long pulls in space. He’s scheme-dependent, lacking strength to generate movement as a drive blocker. He lacks functional length and the anchor needed to keep NFL speed-to-power rushers from ruining his day. If he can add the necessary strength and mass, he’ll have a chance to find snaps in a heavily move-oriented offense.
