The Arizona Cardinals have brought linebacker Desmond Bishop back into the fold.

The veteran was signed by the team on Aug. 14, but was cut on Sept. 6.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said the team brought Bishop back because it needed more depth at inside linebacker.

“Desmond showed good coverage skills,” he said. “I really didn’t want to let him go; it was injury things, so we’re really happy to get him back.”

Bishop said he is not sure where exactly he fits in with the team, but says the goal is to be ready just in case the team needs him.

In the meantime, he’s glad to be back in Arizona. Bishop said he was contacted by a a few other teams while he was a free agent, but it was, “nothing really big.”

Besides, he said Arizona is the place he wanted to be all along.

“I just like it here,” he said. “I like the coaching staff, the players. I feel really comfortable here.”

Bishop, who has played for both the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, has appeared in 73 games (27 starts) and tallied 318 tackles (230 solo), nine sacks, seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.

He will wear jersey No. 52 for Arizona.
