TEMPE, Ariz. — Every year the NFL sees teams come out of nowhere to contend.

The Arizona Cardinals have not exactly come out of nowhere, given that they won 10 games last season and finished the campaign winners of seven of their last nine.

Even still, did anyone see a 9-1 start in their future?

“Well as a rookie, I didn’t see anything coming,” safety Deone Bucannon said, with a laugh. “I was just over there trying to play.”

Fair enough.

Whether anyone saw it coming or not, the Cardinals are 9-1, which is the best record in the entire NFL. They also have a three-game lead over the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West, and hold the tiebreaker with many other playoff hopeful NFC teams.

It has been a dream start for the team, if you exclude all the key injuries and off-field issues, and it has put the team in a great spot heading into the season’s final stretch. A division title is well within their sights, as is home field advantage in the postseason.

But despite the accolades and the attention that comes with a start like this, it sure doesn’t feel like 9-1 around the team.
