Inside the Numbers: Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks

Arizona returns to University of Phoenix Stadium for the first time since Week 6. The Cardinals’ matchup against Seattle this week is one of just two home games for Arizona in a span of 55 days.

This will be the 37th all-time meeting between the division rivals in a series that dates back to 1976. Arizona leads the all-time series between the two teams 18-17-1. They will meet again in the regular season finale at Seattle in Week 17.

The 2017 season marks the fifth consecutive year that the Cardinals and Seahawks will square off in prime time. They last played on Thursday Night Football in 2013.

The Seahawks have won four of their past five games and finished the first half of their season with a 5-3 record. Seattle is on pace for its sixth consecutive season with at least 10 wins and the Seahawks have made the playoffs in each of the previous five seasons.

Seattle leads the NFC in passing offense (274.8 yards per game) and ranks third in the conference in total offense (378.6).

Here are some of the most notable stats for the Arizona Cardinals heading into the primetime showdown.

CARDINALS

Quarterback Drew Stanton has won four starts in row. He passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns last week. He has six touchdowns and two interceptions in his last five starts versus the NFC West.

Stanton finished 15-of-30 for 201 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against the San Francisco 49ers. There were two dropped passes as well.

He finished 2-of-4 on deep targets for 75 yards and his 95.8 passer rating on deep passes is the sixth-best mark this week with just two games remaining. Using play action, Stanton was only 3-of-7 for 12 yards along with his lone interception of the day.

Running back Adrian Peterson had 37 carries for 159 rush yards in Week 9. He has 347 rushing yards (86.8 per game) and two touchdowns in four career meetings. In four career Thursday games, he has 354 rushing yards (88.5 per game) and four touchdowns.

Peterson averaged 2.97 yards after contact and forced eight missed tackles on 37 rushing attempts. Peterson had a 37.1 percent breakaway percentage (the percentage of yards that come on runs of 15 yards or more), showing he still has an explosive burst. Peterson finished with three runs of 15 yards or more on the day.

Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald led the team with 70 receiving yards last week. He has 14,953 career receiving yards and surpassed Hall of Famer Tim Brown (14,934) for the sixth-most all-time. He is aiming for his fourth game in a row at home with a touchdown catch.

Linebacker Chandler Jones ranks fourth in the NFL with nine sacks and leads the league with 14 tackles for loss. In three career meetings, Jones has 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He has five sacks in five career Thursday games.

Jones leads the Cardinals in sacks and quarterback pressures with eight. He also has 18 quarterback hits. They need to move him around on both sides on defense.

Safety Tyrann Mathieu has 16 tackles and a sack in his past two games at home. He had the lone forced fumble for the team this year last week.

Mathieu has played better as of late, but he has a tough matchup covering Seattle wide receiver Doug Baldwin in the slot. Baldwin has been targeted 73 times, good for 49 receptions, 530 yards and three touchdowns.

Safety Tyvon Branch leads NFL safeties with 66 tackles. He had eight tackles, a sack and an interception in his only career meeting against Seattle when he was with the Oakland Raiders in 2010.

Branch leads the Cardinals defense in tackles and has done a really good job playing closer to the line of scrimmage.

Safety Antoine Bethea signed a two-year deal and provides great leadership on and off the field a true pro. He has three interceptions in the first half of the season.

Linebacker Karlos Dansby had seven tackles, a sack and an interception in Week 9. He is one of five players with 40 career sacks (43) and 20 interceptions (20). In his last two games against Seattle, Dansby has 16 tackles and ain interception.

Dansby was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Linebacker Deone Bucannon aims for his fifth game in a row with seven-plus tackles. He has 28 tackles and a sack in his last three games taking on the Seahawks.

He’s played well since coming off the PUP list and gives the Cardinals another option covering the tight end down the field.
