Arizona State has hired long-time college coach Dave Christensen as the offensive line coach under head man Herm Edwards.

The 56-year-old Christensen, who was head coach at Wyoming from 2009-13, was hired by former head coach Todd Graham as a non-coaching consultant in March. He replaces Rob Sale, who will join the staff at Louisiana-Lafayette.

“Dave Christensen always seems to surround himself with exciting offenses and offensive lines that move the football and protect the quarterback,” Edwards said in a statement. “He brings over 30 years of coaching pedigree to this program and I’m excited to get him back in an area where he has always found success.”

Christensen brings 35 years of coaching experience to the table. Before landing at ASU, he was the Texas A&M run game coordinator and offensive line coach in 2015. In 2014, he served as the offensive line and tight end coach.

“Much of my career has been spent around the offensive lines of some very good football teams. The one we have here at Arizona State is no different and I look forward to working with them,” Christensen said in the statement.

Prior to leading Wyoming, he spent time as offensive coordinator at Missouri (2001-08) and Toledo (1997-2000).

Christensen will work under offensive coordinator Rob Likens, who was named as Billy Napier’s replacement on Friday. Napier, after spending one year under Graham’s staff, was promoted before deciding to leave the Sun Devils for the head coaching job at Louisiana-Lafayette.
